TEFL (teaching English as a foreign language) has its own ebb and flow.  August for example in Madrid is a month for travelling, visiting friends and family or doing a TEFL course – it is not a time to start teaching.

January however, is a great month for a new beginning.  Many companies start new programs, teachers have left during the Christmas break and their hours need covering, the private market has a boom as Spaniards decide their new year’s resolution is to improve their English.  All of these contribute to a booming teaching market.

For newbies, it is a great time to start a new life in a new city and do a TEFL course.  For those that are experienced, it is the perfect opportunity to update your CV/resume to get new hours or improve the hours you already have.  Make use of your contacts and your fellow teachers.
