#1. Jobs
The opportunities for native English speakers to teach English have grown considerably in the last few years. Not only do more people need to work abroad but it has become essential to boast of a high proficiency level in English to land a job locally. A TEFL certificate will make your job hunt a lot easier as it proves your skills as a teacher. It is difficult to teach a language simply by knowing it. The biggest market for teaching in Spain is Madrid, which makes it an ideal spot to start your job search. You will be able to choose between teaching children or adults, depending on what you prefer!
#2. Art and Culture
Madrid is one of the busiest European cities in terms of events and cultural activities. While living here you will not only get to see some of the most important museums worldwide (Museo Nacional del Prado, Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, etc.), but you will also be able to fill your agenda with plays, musicals, concerts and other fun cultural events.
#3.Weather
If you want to live in a city where the sun constantly shines then Madrid is definitely the place for you. Even in January there are perfectly sunny days where people flock to outdoor terraces to enjoy drinks with friends. You can feel and see the seasons change in Madrid, like in autumn the parks change beautiful bright oranges, browns and yellows and in spring the city blossoms with cherry trees and colorful flowers. There is an average of 300 rain-free days a year in Madrid so forget about the grey and gloom!
#4. Day trips
We all love to travel but we don’t always have enough time to do it, do we? While in Madrid, day trips are a common pastime on weekends since ancient medieval cities are less than an hour away! Visit historical places such as Segovia, Toledo, Ávila, among others, and make the most of your time in Spain.
#5. Food
Did you know that in Madrid there is one bar or restaurant for every 192 residents? Did you know that when you order a drink it usually comes with a “tapa” (small plate of food)? That’s right! Madrid is a foodies’ heaven. Not only will you get to enjoy typical dishes such as Cocido Madrileño, Huevos Rotos, Bocadillos de Calamares, Callos a la Madrileña, etc, but you will be able to try all of this affordably.
