‘Tis the season to be jolly and there is plenty to be to be jolly about with all the Christmas markets options in Madrid. Madrid’s markets are filled with authentic Spanish gifts and gourmet food and drink.

Here I have put together an extensive guide to the options in the capital to get you into the Spanish Christmas spirit:

1. Plaza Mayor (and Plaza de Santa Cruz)

This is the most traditional market in Madrid. It’s perfect if you’re looking for figurines, Christmas decorations, or real Christmas trees. You will find some funny prank gifts, as well, and a carousel for kids.

Where: Plaza Mayor

Dates: November 27 to December 31

Opening hours: 10:00- 21:00

Metro stops: La Latina, Sol, or Opera

2. Adventsbasar German Market

An authentic German market with crafts, advent crowns, raffle, German food and Glüwein (hot, spiced wine).

Where: Paseo de la Castellana, 6

Dates and Opening hours: November 27 18:00-22:00, November 28 14:00-22:00, and November 29 12:00-15:00

Metro stop: Colón

3. The Hovse

This is a three-story mansion in Chamberí, making it one of the fanciest markets in the city. You can find fashionable clothes, craft jewelry, unique gifts, and gourmet food by MEAT (located in their terrace), Olivia Te Cuida, and Fit Food.

Where: Calle General Arrando, 40

Date: November 21 to December 24

Opening hours: 11:00- 21:00

Metro stops: Rubén Darío

4. Madrid Market

There is a wide variety of gifts in this market including accessories, clothes, home decor, and craft jewelry. You get the chance to get “a fraction of a lottery ticket” (una participación) as a gift from the shop Doña Manolita, the most famous lottery ticket vendor, which has won El Gordo lots of times. It’s located in a bohemian space in the trendy Malasaña neighborhood, close to Gran Vía.

Where: Sala Exoticae on Calle Escorial 17

Dates: Saturdays and Sundays from November 28 to December 20

Opening hours: 12:00-21:00

Metro stops: Tribunal, Gran Vía, Callao or Noviciado

5. Feria de Artesanía de Navidad at Plaza de Santo Domingo

This is an outdoor market with several stands that offer craft products made of leather, jewelry, winter clothes and other typical Christmas gifts.

Where: Plaza de Santo Domingo

Dates: Everyday until January 10th

Opening hours: 10:00 to 22:00

Metro stop: Santo Domingo

6. Feria de Artesanía at Plaza de España

Very similar to the previously mentioned market and very close to it, as well. There are several stands that have unique, craft gifts.

Where: Plaza de España

Dates: December 12 to January 7

Opening hours: 11:00-21:00

Metro stop: Plaza de España

7. Mercado del Gato

 

Some of the best stands from all over the world will be at this market with exclusive gifts for children’s clothing, cosmetics, vintage clothing, decor, art, designer jewelry and more. In the ‘Gourmet Section’, there is an exhibit of a nativity scene with figurines from around the world, art exhibits, and live music. The non-profit ‘Aldeas Infatiles’ will also be there to give information and raise funds.

Where: C. C. de los Ejércitos (an old military casino), Gran Vía 13

Dates: December 11 to January 5

Opening hours: 11:00-21:00

Metro stops: Gran vía or Sevilla

8. Pop Up Chic

This is a series of limited, chic pop up stores that move around the Salamanca neighborhood with exclusive gifts and limited editions.

  • Chic Velázquez
    Where: Calle de Velázquez, 12
    Dates and Opening hours: December 10 to January 10 from 11:00 to 21:00; special schedule December 24 and 31, 11:00 to 14:00. Closed December 25, January 1 and 6.
    Metro stops: Retiro or Velázquez
  • Chic Claudio Coello
    Where: Calle de Claudio Coello, 53
    Dates and Opening hours: December 14 to January 10 from 11:00 to 21:00; special schedule December 24 and 31, 11:00 to 14:00. Closed December 25, January 1 and 6.
    Metro stop: Serrano

9. Feria Dulces de Navidad at Plaza Isabel II

In front of the ‘Teatro Real’ there is a small market where you can buy typical Christmas and international sweets.

Where: Plaza de Oriente

Dates: Everyday until January 10

Opening hours: 10:00-22:00

Metro stop: Ópera

10. Nómada Market

This is a market that businesses use to promote their brand and original merchandise, have customers test their products, and connect with other professionals in their sector; whether it be fashion, design, art or the culinary sector. There are activities programmed with exhibits and workshops. Entrance is 1€ for adults and free for children.

Where: Ático de Chamartín

Dates: December 11 to 13

Opening hours:  12:00-21:00

Metro stop: Chamartín

11. Mercadillo at Plaza de Benavente

This is a traditional market that looks like a small medieval town market with unique gifts and crafts.

Where: Plaza de Jacinto Benavente

Dates: Everyday until January 6

Opening Hours: 10:oo-22:00

Metro stops: Sol or Tirso de Molina

12. Feria de Artesanía at Plaza de Moncloa

Another Christmas market staple with a great variety of handmade gifts.

Where: Moncloa

Dates: December 1 to January 12

Opening hours: 10:00-14:30 and 17:00-20:00

Metro stop: Moncloa

13. La Boca: Feria de Diseño Independiente

A market that showcases wonderful art, decor and jewelry designed locally. This is a bit of an alternative market filled with art and color .

Where: Calle Argumosa, 11

Dates and Opening hours: December 17 and 18, 17:00-23:00, December 19, 12:00-23:00, and December 20, 12:00-22:00.

Metro stops: Lavapiés or Atocha

14. Molly Market

An original market with art, decor and design which also includes a gourmet area, children’s activities, and live music. There will be an exhibit by Luis Berto and the non-profit, Asociación Nacional Voz, raising funds to research cures for cancer in children.

Where: Colegio de Arquitectos de Madrid, calle Hortaleza 63

Dates: December 5 and 6

Opening hours: 10:00-20:30

Metro stops: Alonso Martinez, Tribunal or Chueca

15. ALMONEDA Navidad

A special Christmas edition market at IFEMA that features an antique fair, art galleries, and is the ideal place to do your Christmas shopping for original gifts. It is 5€ to get in except for December 11 which is free.

Where: Pabellón 1 de la Feria de Madrid

Dates: December 11 to 15

Opening hours: 12:00-21:00

Metro stop: Campo de las Naciones

16. Fashion Design Pop Up Store

This markets is right in downtown Madrid and you will find a mix of design, art, decor, fashion, cuisine and music.

Where: Calle Serrano 92

Dates: December 1-6, 9-13, 16-20, 22-27, 29-31; January 1-3, 5-10; closed  December 25

Opening hours: 11:00-21:00 and on December 6th, 11:00-14:00

17. In Love Market

 

This is a monthly market with fashion, vintage items, antiques, DIY, and decor with several locations in Madrid:

18. New Town Market

This is a two-story pop up market with a patio and garden. It has the latest trends, accessories, fashion, gourmet food stands, and a bar to enjoy it all with a cocktail in hand.

Where: Calle Princesa 66, in front of the Palacio Real
